Position Summary
The Senior Scientist, Process Chemistry will lead hands-on synthesis of chemical precursors and final products on a multi-kilogram scale following established SOPs. This role requires expertise in organic chemistry, purification, product isolation, and characterization. Key responsibilities include performing synthesis, operating and maintaining equipment, and ensuring a clean and organized work environment. Candidates must have experience with glovebox and Schlenk line techniques under inert atmospheres, and a strong background in industrial chemistry. Attention to detail, the ability to work in a cleanroom setting, and adherence to a production schedule are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and execute chemical reactions according to SOPs on a multi-kilogram scale
- Produce high-quality materials that meet Company product specifications
- Accurately document all production data in SOP batch record forms
- Source, purify, and prepare starting materials, intermediates, and final products
- Conduct or prepare samples for routine analytical testing (e.g., TLC, NMR, HPLC, Mass Spec) to confirm product specifications
- Independently plan and manage production activities, tracking progress, raw materials, equipment availability, and yields to meet production timelines
- Clean and maintain glassware, equipment, and production work areas
- Safely lift, carry, and move production equipment and materials as needed
- Set up production areas for new project starts or product changeovers
- Adhere to all industrial safety and quality control standards
Candidate Qualifications
- MS or PhD in organic, organometallic, or inorganic chemistry
- Minimum of 4 years of industrial production and scale-up experience in multi-step chemical synthesis
- Proven experience in industrial organic synthesis using air-free techniques, including Schlenk line and inert atmosphere glovebox operations
- Ability to independently set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment for routine use
- Prior experience manufacturing products in accordance with SOPs and batch records is preferred
- Strong manual dexterity and excellent hand-eye coordination
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of organic synthesis, purification techniques, and chemical safety protocols
- Proficiency in analytical methods such as NMR, HPLC, TLC, and Mass Spec
- Familiarity with GMP practices and cleanroom operations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail
- Comfortable working under time constraints and production timelines
- Skilled in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and process improvement
